Whilst not being an accredited conservator I can work to the requirements of conservation standards, with as much as possible of the original textile preserved, minimal replacement of threads, all stitching reversible and photographic records taken.

Late C17 Tapestry

------- xxxx -------

The woven silk background had become dry and brittle, and the weight of the tapestry had pulled it apart

Lines of conservation thread were couched in place, fastening the tapestry to a pre-shrunk lining to secure it

--------------------

Card table cloth

------- xxxx -------

The threads on the Ace of Hearts had come adrift

Lines of couching make the piece safe and return the design

--------------------

Crewel work

------- xxxx -------

The wool embroidery of crewel work often survives much better than the fabric it is worked in to

It is supported on to a new piece of fabric, preserving as much of the original as possible
